Czar

This affectionate and charming Sheltie is Czar. He is a small, skinny (maybe 14 pounds) senior Sheltie aged somewhere between 11 and 14 years of age. For unknown reasons, he was given a military shave when it was still cold outside. His coat is growing back, but in the meantime he doesn't have much protection from either the hot sun or cold air conditioning.

Czar is the sweetest, gentlest senior Sheltie you could ever want to meet – his name is not a good fit with his true personality. If he thinks that you might want to hurt him he'll turn his head and open his mouth as though he's going to bite you, but he doesn't complete the movement and has never bitten anyone. However, this behavior suggests that Czar may have been roughly treated.

Czar's bark doesn't seem have an "off button". Because he's a bit deaf, you'll need to help him understand that it's time to stop barking by walking up to him, to which he responds quickly. Czar was a frequent resident at a local shelter. His owners declined to pay the fine and pick him up and instead turned him over to the shelter to be euthanized. Luckily for us, this shelter contacted Sheltie Rescue and Czar was turned over to us. He was neutered, had a dental and a complete blood panel after he arrived, and is in good health.

Sweet Czar's adoption fee is $75.00.

Kalvin is a 10 year old pure bred Sheltie. He is a very handsome, very sweet, very well behaved gentleman! He comes when called. He also knows "sit" and will do so upon command. Kalvin walks well on lead -- staying right beside you the entire time. He is VERY housetrained and will "hold it" all day w/o any accidents! He's very loyal and affectionate -- once he gets to know you -- and always wants to be near you.

Kalvin was surrendered because he doesn't get along with children and there were grandkids coming to live at his former owner's home. Kalvin is a little wary of strangers. He prefers a quiet home without a lot of "hubbub" or young children. He needs stability and is most suitable for "dog people" who know how to deal with trust issues. Another quiet, mellow dog for company would be ideal and would help him to adjust. He does "purrfectly" fine with cats.

Kalvin deserves to live the rest of his life getting the love he's earned, so his adoption donation is only $75.00. His adoption is pending.

Tommy is the product of breeding two Blue Merle Shelties – a Very Bad Combination. Because of the genetic lottery that comes from such breedings, Tommy was born blind and deaf...and very, very white.

In his short life (three years according to the papers we were given, but his teeth suggest that he might be a little older), this incredibly sweet and loving boy has already had three or four homes. A wonderful woman in San Diego became aware of Tommy when his mom realized that she and her husband were not able to give him the attention that he needed and deserves. This great friend of Sheltie Rescue retrieved Tommy and kept him for several days until we were able to arrange for him to fly to Utah.

In only a few hours, we fell totally in love with this guy. He might be blind and deaf, but he is not disabled! Not by a long shot. He's fearless and loves to meet new people and explore new surroundings. He has a nose like a bloodhound and actually "sees" his world through scent. Scientists say that this is literally true, because the vision centers of the brain are being used!

Tommy gets along very well with others and really should have a fantastic career as a Therapy Dog. Just imagine the inspiration he will be to children and adults who have been injured, or are very ill, or are disabled.

Tommy's adoption donation (if we can bear to have him torn away from us!) is $200.00. His adoption is pending!

Evie is a very tiny Sheltie-girl (about 1 year old in Autumn 2006) who is fearless most of the time, very smart, and very lovable. She started off with poor socialization and, as a consequence, used to be fearful. In our home, though, she's learned a lot about other dogs, households, and people to become a much, much braver girl. She continues to need exposure to new people and activities, but she quickly realizes when there's nothing to be afraid of. Evie learns very quickly and is completely devoted to "her person" and is very driven to be responsive. She rarely might chew on something she shouldn't, but she's still a kid and still learning. Evie would like to be the top dog in the household (but probably shouldn't be encouraged to do so). She plays well with other dogs, but can get aggressive around food. Feeding her in her crate is a great solution to this problem; otherwise, she should probably be fed in a different room than other dogs living in the house.

Evie will not do well with very small children, whom she finds threatening, but she's great with our cat. Her adopting family needs to take her to training classes and will have a lot of fun being at the head of the class with this very smart girl! Evie has the potential to be an outstanding agility dog. She's very athletic and nimble.

Evie's adoption donation is $300.00. Her adoption is pending.

Simone

Simone, along with Ritzy, was in a puppy mill that was shut down by Uintah County and came to Sheltie Rescue in November, 2006, very frightened. We had them thoroughly checked out at Cottonwood Animal Hospital, had them spayed, and gave them both dentals. Simone healed quickly and is now learning how sweet life can be when you're loved.

Simone is a very small, healthy six year old (November 2006) little girl who still has some difficulties learning to trust men. She will approach us if we're sitting and even ask to be petted by pawing at us. She's probably going to need a nice calm household. Simone has no problems with the other Shelties in the house, but has only recently started to play with any of them. She will do best in an adult home.

Simone's adoption donation is $75.00.

Shelbee is the sweetest ten year old Sheltie you could ever meet. She was turned over to Sheltie Rescue when her family could no longer keep her. When she first came to us, she was quite a bit overweight weighing in at 55 pounds. Shelbee is now a much healthier 51 pounds and probably should weigh about 45lbs. She still has a beautiful face.

Shelbee no longer has as much difficulty standing up because of her weight. She may have a touch of arthritis too. But for a 10 year old, there are really very few signs of arthritic problems.

Shelby loves to be cuddled and loved on. She's very calm and laid back, very good with other dogs, and she's good with our cat, too. Shelbee's weight is not due to a thyroid condition.

Shelbee's adoption fee is $75.00.

Sarah is an 18 month old Sheltie (possibly a Sheltie mix – it's hard to say for certain). Her personality appears to be mostly Sheltie. She is a sweetheart, but is shy. She has a short coat in mahogany, sable, and white colors. Despite being shy and somewhat fearful, she hasn't an aggressive cell in her body.

Sarah is the kind of Sheltie-girl who needs a fairly quiet, stable home environment where she can learn that the world is not really a scary place. She has already made a lot of progress...she used to be much more shy and frightened than she is now. This is an excellent sign that she's able to grow and mature into a more confident Sheltie with the right kind of support.

That would include going to training classes. Sarah would probably blossom beautifully in basic obedience and possibly even agility too...with patience.  Her first efforts at going through a tunnel might pose some challenges...but this is a loving Sheltie who wants to please her Mom (especially). She's more confident of human females than she is of human males. We'd even expect this preference for females to even out over time with love, training, and patience.

Sarah's adoption is pending.
