75) Buddy lived with a family whose lifestyle changed as the children grew older. The family became much more active in activities such as sports and they spent less and less time with Buddy. Realizing that Buddy needed more attention and social contact than he was getting, they released him to Sheltie Rescue of Utah. Buddy was immediately adopted by a fantastic family who has fostered other Shelties for us. Buddy now has his own buddy, Keshia. |
74) Rogue (formerly known as Bonnie Jean) is a very small (11"?) Sheltie who was released to us by her family. She was very skittish, especially (but not exclusively) with men and required patience to integrate into her newhousehold. But that patience is warmly rewarded, because Bonnie is extremely affectionate now that she discovered that she's safe.
Bonnie Jean was fostered by Sheltie Rescue of Utah's Foster Coordinator, who fell in love with her and decided to adopt her. Her name has been changed to Rogue (a character in the X-Men movies), which really fits her personality!

73) Freida was turned into Southern Utah Valley Animal Control by her family for reasons of which we are uncertain. She is a wonderful, patient, loving, and playful (but not rambunctious!) middle-aged lady of seven years.
Frieda bonded very quickly to her new family and gets along equally well with men, women, and children. She is great with other dogs, although she competes for attention! (We have not seen her interact with cats and thus cannot say how she is with them.)
Frieda loves to retrieve toys and to chase tennis balls (and she catches them very nicely), but should will not do too much catching frisbees in the air due to her age. She is very intelligent and incredibly communicative. She's fully housebroken, of course, and is crate trained. She has a very sound temperament.
Frieda was adopted by her foster family, who simply couldn't bear to part with her. All members of the family, including Frieda, are delighted by the turn of events -- just look at that happy face! |
72) Darwin is a darling, oversized, sable and white Sheltie, a year old, and full of energy. He is house trained but has little other training and needs to go to training class with a loving Mom or Dad.
Darwin was purchased by a family with two small children just after the death of their father. He provided a very therapeutic outlet for the family, especially the children. Soon, they had to give up their house and move into an apartment where they couldn't keep Darwin, so he went to live in a friend's backyard. As soon as they discovered Sheltie Rescue, they contacted us and relinquished him to us.
Darwin is extremely good natured and curious. Darwin gets along very well with other dogs and people and he’s also a snuggle-bunny!
Darwin was adopted by one of our (Samoyed) rescue colleagues who fostered him for us. After living with him for only a few weeks, she fell completely in love with him and couldn't imagine giving him up. Another incredibly happy ending!!

71) Shep was approximately one year old in August, 2006, when he was turned into Southern Utah Valley Animal Control by his former owners because of typical adolescent Border Collie behavior.
He's a very handsome black and white border collie, housebroken, good with other dogs, not at all aggressive, and he has tons of energy. He's extremely intelligent and curious, and very loving and responsive. In addition, he is good with children. His temperament is quite sound and we believed that he would be very good at activities such as obedience, herding, and agility.
Shep was adopted by a wonderful man in Indiana who is a well-known dog trainer specializing in agility. Shep settled in very quickly, knowing intuitively that this was now his forever home. His new owner renamed him "Levi", which seems to fit this lovely Border Collie just fine.

70) This gorgeous guy is Apache. He is a beautiful purebred blue merle Sheltie with full white collar, tipped ears, and thick coat. An slightly oversized, neutered male about 18 months old (in early 2006), he is very loving and mellow, but reserved around other people, especially men. He gets along very well with other dogs.
A fantastic couple who previously adopted Laddie from us (Laddie's story appears here) fell in love with Apache and, having experience with special needs dogs, knew that they could overcome his social issues with men. Apache is very happily spending his days being Laddie's new big brother and learning what it's like to have a forever home!

(We never managed to get a photo of Koda-bear) 69) Koda-bear, also known as Fuzzy-Wuzzy, had never seen the inside of a house until he was rescued from a very cooperative shelter in Utah County. We expected the worst: an out-of-control dog who would quickly lay waste (and lots of it!) throughout our house. Much to our pleasure, this extremely pretty two-year-old (in early 2006) learned very quickly that the outdoors is the place to go potty and the indoors is where you play hide-and-seek with the kitty.
Very soon after his rescue, we found a wonderful retired gentleman who was very enthusiastic about adopting a dog from us. Once he met Koda-bear, it was destiny! The two of them are living together very happily and do just about everything together. Happy endings like this make it all worthwhile! |
68) Zan came to us in April, 2006 at about one year of age, a tall, gangly teenager. He was a bit reserved with people, and a little bit skittish around men. But he was a real joy to have around, and was a great cuddler and pal.
Zan was adopted by a woman who had previously adopted from us. Timmy passed away a few years ago (see information about Timmy on our R.I.P. page), but he was a special needs Sheltie in that he was born with a vision impairment that left him with the ability to see only shades of light and dark. While this woman is a teacher, she really lives for her dogs. When she recently lost a second Sheltie very shortly after a diagnosis of heart disease, she was devastated and contacted us. After much discussion, we decided to see if Zan would work out for her. In fact, Zan resembled Timmy quite a bit and is also a very sweet male Sheltie. With his very loving and protective new Mom, Zan now gets to spend summers in the cooler and thinner air near Yellowstone and he winters in a northern suburb of Salt Lake City.
We couldn't be happier that Zan found his forever home so quickly!
