Zipper came into a family 8 years ago as a puppy.  He had a human Mom and Dad, a cat he loved and would play with, and two Sheltie buddies he enjoyed and who gave him the confidence he lacks.  Over the last 8 years Zipper gradually lost his Mom, his cat, and his Sheltie buddies - all of whom passed away as their time came.  Last week, Zipper became the last surviving member of his household when his Dad passed away.

Zipper is going to visit the vet's office this week for a senior wellness exam at Cottonwood Animal Hospital.  They will test his blood to check for any diseases, check his urine to see how his kidney's are doing, and check his thyroid levels to make sure they're normal (Shelties often need thyroid supplementation) --- my guess by looking at him is that his thyroid levels are fine.

After the blood work results are in Zipper is going to have a dental done asap because he REALLY needs it.  I'm not sure that he'll need any extractions but he'll be much happier once his teeth are clean.  We'll know more once the vet can take a really close look.

Zipper would do best in a home where there's another Sheltie and people he can snuggle with.  You'll see in the photos that this is his favorite thing to do.  We think Zipper gains confidence when he's around another Sheltie who is more confident than he is - and is less protective of his owners and his turf with another Sheltie to help him know that all is well with their world.

We feed a variety of premium foods - both kibble and canned to our rescued Shelties.  Among the brand names we like are Blue Buffalo, Wellness, Natural Balance, and others.  We also give every Sheltie here a comprehensive vitamin in tablet or powder form - each day.  We like Veteri-Science Canine Plus Vitamins very much.  We also like Show Stopper and Young at Heart (a senior formula) by Animal Naturals.  We provide this information to help you "feed them like family" which is the tag line used by Blue Buffalo.

Besides for enjoying a good cuddle, Zipper loves to be brushed.

Zipper just arrived here on Saturday, February 18, 2012.  If you think you'd like to know more about Zipper or might be interested in adopting him please go to our website at http://SheltieRescueUT.org and register and fill out our 3 part Application for Adoption.  You can also feel free to call me at 801-942-4762.  Thanks for checking out Zipper's listing - he needs a home where once again, he'll be cherished.
