Shaggy has had a rough start in life although right now he's in the most wonderful foster home possible...however it's only a foster home.  Shaggy was left outside in a pen with only chicken scratch for food.  His owner, who also owned his Mom and Dad, became very ill and wasn't able to care for, let alone think about, the Collies outside.  A daughter and son-in-law stepped in to rescue these beautiful Collies.  One died within a week of being brought to the daughter and son-in-laws home for reasons that are unclear.  Shaggy and his brother, Scooby, were turned over to Sheltie Rescue of Utah.

Although Shaggy has had a rough start we've had him neutered and gotten him up-to-date on shots, worming, heartworm testing (only Interceptor heartworm medication is acceptable) and all the typical Collie-baby medical attention.  Shaggy is also microchipped.

His foster Mom reports that he sleeps next to her bed and stays put all night.  No accidents and no attempts to play with his Maltese buddy (see the video below).  We are very impressed because nobody has actually house-trained Shaggy.  Shaggy's foster Mom does make sure that he goes outside frequently to avoid accidents in the house but so far he's had none.  Shaggy has just spent his first week living in a house so this is a big milestone for him and we're very proud of his success and his foster Mom's savvy.

Shaggy has had no basic training which is something an adopting home would want to consider because as a Collie, he's a big boy.  At last weighing, Shaggy weighted in at 63lbs.  We expect him to get heavier.  Feeling his body it's very easy to feel his ribs.

Shaggy is a very smart, very gentle, and very loving boy.  He will be a wonderful companion to some lucky human(s).  If you'd like more information about Shaggy please call Barbara at Sheltie Rescue at 801-942-4762.  If you're interested in adopting, please fill out our online Application for Adoption at www.SheltieRescueUT.org.  The adoption fee for Shaggy will be $400.00 but the love and companionship he will give you is priceless.
