Furry is 6 years old and a very shy boy. Furry is especially hand shy although we have finally taught him to come/approach for a treat. He's a very smart boy. He will not let you pet him until you've helped him, with treats, learn that he can take a treat without being touched.
Furry arrived urinating and defecating in his own crate and not neutered. He quickly learned to go potty outside however he continued lifting his leg to mark. Because of his lack of socialization and need to get used to living in a home and being around adults, we put a belly band on him which is a male dog diaper. This allowed him to have the run of the house, play with the other dogs, and interact with us, and learn to live in a home. Furry continues to need to wear a belly band. We use both washable and disposable belly bands.
Furry is a special needs Sheltie because of his fear of people and peoples' hands. He needs someone with lots of love, patience, and time to work with him. He probably needs to be with another dog, preferably a female.
