Jill is as cute as they come AND she's smart. For a terrier mix who's only about 1 1/2 years old I think she's pretty well behaved. She's very loving but she does treat couches, coffee tables, and people as though we're all there for her to climb on or walk on. When she first arrived here she used to jump up A LOT but we've discouraged that behavior. If she thinks you're going to hurt her she'll react protectively. This shouldn't be confused with aggression.
Jill gets along really well with the other dogs here except for a tiff every now and then. She seems to love people and enjoy meeting them when potential adopters arrive here. We often have many dogs meet potential adopters as a socialization exercise. Most adopters enjoy it too.
Jill arrived here as a result of a couple breaking up who had previously adopted a Sheltie from us. Jill and Stevie Nicks came to us together. Stevie has since been placed but Jill is still searching for her forever home. Jill is wonderfully loving. When I watch TV she likes to lay on top of me. She likes to put her head on my head.
Jill can be a very in-your-face girl with both people and other dogs. It took a few hours or maybe a day or two for the other dogs here to get used to Jill. Once they did they found her to be a good playmate. Jill does get possessive of her person and of her food. She can get aggressive towards other dogs over both of these issues. It's pretty easy to avoid or stop this behavior but this is something for a potential adopter to consider.
Jill can leap from across the room and right into your lap before you even realize it. She likes to put one paw on one of my shoulders and the other paw on the other shoulder and then give me lots of kisses. She's a very active girl.
Jill is housetrained and is going to make someone an outstanding companion but you need to be prepared for the fact that she is so active and that she's still really a baby. I wouldn't let her have the run of the house while you're out unless you want to see what kind of mischief she can get up to. She'd love to sleep with you at night if you'll let her.
If you're interested in Jill and have questions please visit us at SheltieRescueUT.org and fill out an Application for Adoption. You can also call us at 801-942-4762. Jill's adoption fee is $275.00.
